FilmCan

Film plays an important part in young people’s lives today. Youth are the biggest consumers of film and the moving image has become a shared and vital global language.

FilmCan provides budding filmmakers with the opportunity to create a short video in a chosen area of narrative, documentary or experimental film. Students work in groups under mentor guidance from concept to completion. FilmCAN sessions start mid-November, with a flexible schedule, and run to the commencement of the Festival where final works will be screened in the official Festival program, InVision.

Filmmakers in the Schools

The Festival is looking for teachers interested in having filmmakers visit their classrooms to talk about the experience of creating films. The filmmakers will include writers, directors, composers and producers involved in documentaries, narrative and experimental film.

Our speakers cover a range of topics, all of which promote a critical understanding of how visual media affect our lives. Visits can be designed to fit within the context of classroom schedules and subject areas- literature, art, music, social studies, career planning or language studies. The filmmakers will be available to come to your school from the middle of January until February 3rd.
